Project 1: Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) Solutions

Overview

With the introduction of high speed Internet, today’s upper bandwidth requirements are rapidly increase. To address the demand for expanded bandwidth, Internet service providers are providing FTTH broadband internet services to serve and reach their customers. The new FTTH deployments have the capability to offer customers more data capacity and functionality to support comprehensive bandwidth-hungry applications such as high definition IPTV services which require guaranteed high bit rates to achieve the required quality.

Technology

In FTTH network, signal from Optical Line Termination (OLT) at the central office is broadcasted to the Optical Network Termination (ONT) via the fiber all the way. FTTH network can be configured as point-to-point systems or passive-optical networks (PONs). Point-to-point FTTH technology provides a dedicated fiber to each home, therefore it can offer per subscriber unrivaled security and bandwidth provisioning. FTTH PONs has an architecture that contains passive electronics in the field. PONs is very adaptable which allow the Internet service providers to reach up to 32 or 64 customers as far as 20km away.

Challenges

FTTH network is becoming the main choice for the last mile of broadband access. To enhance multi-vendor interoperability and to enable better fiber network integration is the most important issue to be expedited.

Solutions

By utilizing Billion’s FTTH solutions, the internet service provider will offer the ultra-high-speed access network that deliver fast internet and high-definition IPTV services to customers at home. Thanks for the unsurpassed research capability; Billion’s FTTH solution is successfully interoperable with major OLT suppliers.

The BiPAC 9300VNX is a next-generation Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) integrated access device (IAD). It uses BroadLight’s BL2348 embedded System-on-Chip solution and is fitted with a 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch and Wi-Fi 802.11n access point.

The BiPAC 9800N is a point-to-point (P2P) Fiber Gateway – featuring a 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch, Firewall and Wi-Fi 802.11n access point.
